The Status and trends of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Africa*
Report on a workshop held in Kampala, Uganda, December 8-9, 1995
*On December 8-9, 1995, the AIDS Control and Prevention (AIDSCAP) Project of
Family Health International and the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Center for
Health and Human Rights of the Harvard School of Public Health cosponsored a
workshop in Kampala, Uganda, to review the status and trends of HIV/AIDS
epidemics in Africa.
The workshop preceeded the IXth International Conference on AIDS & STD in
Africa. It brought together the following epidemiologists, demographers,
economists, public health and international development experts from Africa,
Europe and North America: Martha Ainsworth, Godwill Asiimwe-Okiror, Edward
Brown, John Paul Clark, Kevin M. De Cock, Michel Garenne, Jacob Gayle,
Guy-Michel Gershy-Damet, Jaafar Heikel, Hilary Homans, Sam Kalibala, Jean A.
Kalilani, Marie Laga, Peter Lamptey, Thierry Mertens, Warren Naamara, Mary
O'Grady, Noah Jamie Robinson, Godfrey Sikipa, Cheryl Sonnichsen, Karen
Stanecki-Delay, Rand Stoneburner, Don Sutherland, Daniel Tarantola, Maria
Wawer, Peter Way, and Vicky Wells.
