I am aware of another group that obtains and disseminates information on
HIV infection and reported AIDS cases, and they've provided me with
information on Sub-Saharan Africa fairly recently. I worry that the
article you read may have meant southern Africa as opposed to the country
South Africa, but maybe SA has had a recent surge. Anyway, you can call
directly to the US Bureau of the Census, Health Studies Branch,
International Programs Center, at (301) 457-1406. Or, the email address
of the Chief, Karen Stanecki De Lay, is

It would certainly be worth inquiring of them.
