There are a couple of business initiatives in the region, that I know off.

1. In Thailand there is an NGO called TBCA (Thailand Business Coalition
on AIDS); which was set-up some time in 1993-94 and exclusively deals with
AIDS education awareness programs for the business houses and work places.
TBCA also provides training to NGOs or the representatives of the business
on AIDS.

2. In India there are two major National Federations of Industries/
Business; which have taken up initiatives to some extent to creat AIDS
awareness in Business/Industries.
(a) CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) - They have an AIDS Cell,
based in Delhi. CII had developed a kit comprising of posters/ stickers/
leaflets and hand outs and sold to the industries
(b) FICCI: (Federation of Indian Commerce, Companies and Industries)
Mr.G.P.Gupta,Under Secretary, FICCI,Federation House, Tansen Marg,

3. Indian Health Organisation launched a program "Business Responds to
AIDS" last year and provides programs for the business and industries.
Till date about 15 of the business/ industrial establishments, mainly in
Mumbai (Bombay), have organised programs with the support of IHO. IHO has
developed a special brochure for this purpose and procedural guidelines
on running such programs. This information can be accessed by browsing the
IHO website:

Barring these, we hardly see any organised response to AIDS in business.
There are a few business houses like Johnson & Johnson and TATAs in India
have been running regular AIDS education programs with our support.

Thanking you.
Sincerely yours,

Dr. I. S. Gilada,
