Job Opportunities with Health & Development Networks (HDN)

Health and Development Networks (HDN) is a non-profit organization. Our
mission is to mobilise a more effective response to HIV/AIDS, TB and
Malaria and other health-and-development-related issues by improving
information, communication and the quality of debate.

Current vacancies:

Project Manager(s)
HDN is developing several new project areas during the course of 2003, as
part of a plan of work for 2003-2005 supported by the Government of
Ireland. Each work area will be managed by a Project Manager. Shortlisted
candidates for these positions will be considered for specific project
assignments depending upon their previous experience and project-related
knowledge.
What follows is a generic description of the Project Manager positions, of
which 2-3 are currently under consideration. These positions will be
assigned either to HDN's Asia Pacific (Chiang Mai, Thailand) or Africa
(location to be finalized) operational base.
Vacancy HDNAP03/03:
Project Manager (One-year contract; renewable)
Application closing date: 15 February 2003
Main areas of work
- Overall project implementation and management
- Prepare annual strategic plan
- Develop and implement detailed project workplan and budget
- Recruitment and supervision of other project staff
- Providing technical guidance to project staff as needed
- Conducting background research for the preparation of project
- Monitoring project implementation (incl. finance, procurement etc.)
- Preparing reports on project progress for internal and external
purposes
- Liaison with key project stakeholders
Desirable skills/background:
- Must be flexible and able to work on own initiative
- Must be able to work as part of a team considering its needs in the
current circumstances
- Must be able to interact effectively with external contacts
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Broad understanding of HIV/AIDS and/or other health-related issues
- Excellent management, administrative and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Advanced computer skills
- Ability to take initiative
- Good research/collation skills
- Good understanding of e-mail discussion forums
- Familiarity with international conferences and other events
- Cultural sensitivity and adaptability
Relevant qualifications:
- A masters degree in public health or a related field
- Excellent project planning, management, and budget skills
- Good understanding and extensive experience in TB and AIDS-related
issues
- Good track record in managing similar projects
