Colleagues,
Related to input of Eric Buch, I suggest that skills building session on monitoring and
evaluation and identifying indicators as well be available at the conference. Also a
skills building workshop on PRA ( Partipatory Rural Action) which very community oriented
approach.
Needs assessment is vital and community workers should be well equipped with this.

I definitely agree with all that you have said Eric. It is so important for countries to
adapt a monitoring system from the initial stage of the implementing a CHBC programme.
Unfortunately it is not usually considered until many months after the programme has
started.
We in WHO/AFRO have developed a CHBC monitoring tool for the Region which focuses on the
effectiveness and appropriateness of the care provided by the CHBC provider in the home.
We have a section for the supervisor and for the CHBC provider who can be a family member
or trained caregiver to use in recording the services provided.
We have pretested it in several countries of the region and we are ready to send it to our
Regional Publications committee of WHO and launch it at the conference.
Best regards.
