Dear John,
[Mod. -- Glen is referring to posting [procaare] Re: Pre-6th HCC: Children - Infected or
Affected by HIV/AIDS (9) - from John Williamson 16.09.03]
I agree entirely with all you have written. We have tried for over a decade to highlight
these issues, e.g. through the 'Orphan Generation' video (1992) and various SFH books
(most recently in SFH book 16, 'Journeys of Faith').
I've always found that there is much greater awareness of the shortcomings of orphanages
and other institutions in Africa than in the aid donor
countries. But when donors come to Africa offering money for orphanages it's not easy to
refuse. Perhaps we should have made more effort to raise awareness of these issues in
Europe and the US, but the resource constraints would have been prohibitive. God bless
your efforts to highlight these (and other) hugely important issues through your work.
With warm regards,
Glen
