>From September 1-2, 2005, one hundred and fifty young leaders from across Nigeria will gather in the beautiful city of Port Harcourt - Nigeria's Garden City for the Nigerian Youth Leadership under the auspices of Development Partnership International, Center for Development Support Initiatives and Lifetime Caring Ministries.
The purpose of the Summit is to reflect on, review and evolve concrete action plans in the implementation of the MDGs and NEPAD as enshrined in the National Economic Empowerment and Development Strategy (NEEDS) - which is predicated on value reorientation, poverty eradication, wealth creation and employment generation. The Summit programme will focus on five key themes: Health, Employment/ youth entrepreneurship, Environmental sustainability, Information and Communication Technology for Development and Educational for all.
Goals and Objectives:
- To bring together young leaders from various fields of endeavour and expertise, to identify Nigeria's challenges;
- To create opportunities for young activists to express their dreams and expectations about the future of Nigeria and to seek practical ways to align these with the national development agenda of Nigeria;
- To create a platform for young leaders to plan concrete projects that directly contribute to the development efforts on the Nigerian state;
- To identify the roles of young Nigerians in the achievement of major international frameworks like the Millennium Development Goals, New Partnership for Africa's Development and the Declaration of the UN General Assembly Special session on HIV/AIDS.
Call for Papers:
We are inviting good quality well researched papers related to any of the five themes of the summit. Papers should not exceed seven pages and should include a cover page containing presenters name, organization, and contact address as well as an abstract of not more than 500 words. Full papers should be received not later than August 15, 2005. Please email completed papers to dpi@developmentpartnership.org.
Application Deadline: August 15, 2005
Event Fees and Expenses: Costs covered by the organizers include conference materials, tea/coffee and lunch. Other costs including Transport and accommodation will be covered by participants.
