Dear Colleagues,

Sisterhood Mobilized for AIDS/HIV Research & Treatment is a non-profit organization in New York City that provides treatment and prevention education and support to women living with and affected with HIV/AIDS.  Founded in 1998 by a group of women in East Harlem, we continue to be a client-driven organization that provides programs to empower women that promote self-esteem, self-sufficiency and lead longer and healthier lives as well as build community among women locally, nationally and internationally. We have also been strong advocates for microbicides.

We have recently hired a new Executive Director, Maya Iwata, who comes to SMART with more than 15 years experience in the field of HIV/AIDS.  In addition to strengthening our existing programs that serve women, another program she is currently developing is SMART Youth.  We hope that one component of this program will build solidarity among youth living with and affected by HIV/AIDS both nationally and globally and address the issues that affect youth.
