I believe that the main problem is that a lot of emphasis is being
placed on ARVs at the expense of other issues that arise such as food
and psychosocial needs especially in Africa. The uniqueness of problems
faced by people living with HIV/AIDS cannot be ignored and summarized
with the provision of ARVs. 

However, this is a catch 22 situation. Given the choice of a drug that
prolongs life, the side effects no matter how horrible and devastating
may not deter you from using that particular drug. 

Having said that, I think the issue of alternative medicine to boost
immunity needs to be explored and regulated. Because if we can have an
alternative to boosting the immunity and increasing the CD 4 counts with
minimal side effects then we will have gone a long way towards improving
the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS.
